I am proud to endorse Jim Murphy, a man who has worked his entire professional life in the schools as a teacher and administrator. Jim is passionate in his belief that education has to be a priority in our society. He understands that children are our dearest resource and deserve our highest focus so as to provide them with the tools they will need for the future. In all of this mix, Jim sees that the fullness of student development is deeply tied to an appreciation for the humanities as well as a continued emphasis on sciences and math. Jim knows all of our futures depend on promoting the very best education for each child. — Janice D'Avignon

Jim is probably the best candidate I could think of for a position like this. His intense passion for education stems from his own life long love of learning, instilled in him by a family of teachers, from a young age. Newton would be lucky to have him advocating for your schools, your students, your teachers and for education. — Karen Murphy

I believe Jim is a great candidate for school committee. His years of dedication and experience in public schools give him a unique understanding and working knowledge of the intricacies needed to make a school system successful. — Michelle Perfetuo
I believe Jim would be a wonderful school committee member in Newton! I speak as a former colleague, as well as a former school committee member from Brewster, MA. Jim and I were both hired as Directors in the Everett Public Schools in 2016, he as Director of Social Studies and I as Director of English Language Arts. I worked with him on the Leadership Team in the district, where he enriched conversations with his clear and reasoned discourse. He has extensive experience as a teacher and a leader and he has a strong grasp of curriculum, instruction, and assessment, as well as policy and pedagogy. He always supported teachers who wished to take on new challenges and initiatives if they did so in service of students. His dedication and expertise earned him the respect of his teaching staff. Jim was a role model of professional behavior and collegiality. He provides a broad perspective on educational issues, something that is often missing in schools. My practice was clearly enriched by my interaction with him as a colleague. Jim has the experience and knowledge to make decisions about school budgets that are both fiscally and educationally sound. I endorse him wholeheartedly. Jennifer Rabold — Jennifer Rabold
Educator and former school committee member, Brewster, MA
As a former student of Jim's over 20 years ago, I can think of no one more qualified to help lead Newton skills. Among his many roles, Jim taught policy debate and trained generations of students to think critically about all sides of policy questions. That analytical rigor allows him to apply his decades of experience to create strong schools today and for years into the future. — Geoffrey Smith
Experienced Educator for school committee
I have known Jim for well over thirty years. He is well versed in education and cares about students and parents, I would heartly endorse Jim for this position. — Michael Walker
